Group Average uses a normal average rather than a weighted average. Total Federal Investment is the amount cumulatively borrowed by law school graduates at a law school. We determined each group by that amount, and then found the average federal investment at the schools in the group. The amount borrowed does not include interest that accumulated during law school, debt from other degree programs, or private debt related to attending law school. The Adjusted Total estimates the actual total investment. We assume an average amount borrowed based on known debt figures for the group and borrowing rates based on school type (regardless of group). The caption under each adjusted figure shows how many graduates at how many schools for which we used an estimate.
